Showcase Theatre from Flanders

Flanders' finest playwrights and their texts are crossing the Channel, as part of our Flip through Flanders programme in the UK & Ireland.

Join our script in hand reading of two recently translated theatre texts from Flanders at Volia! Theatre Festival on Friday 22 November 2024.

‘Hide’ by Anna Carlier, translated by David McKay

‘Hide’ by Anna Carlier.

A pregnant woman fantasises about the future life of her unborn daughter. One thing is certain: that future will be far from unproblematic. Sea levels are rising, the rain is endless, there is a constant flow of mud, and the earth is shrivelling. Nature has demanded to have the world back. Follow her journey in this beautifully written, poignantly moving play.

‘Gen X Has Left the Chat’ by Annelies Verbeke, translated by Liz Waters

Gen X
‘Gen X Has Left the Chat’ by Annelies Verbeke.

A group of parents try to arrange a get together via Whatsapp. Things get complicated when a parent claims that his son is being bullied by the others. Then someone accidentally shares a photo that was clearly meant for another group... To try and put things right, the teacher calls a meeting with the parents. IRL obviously.

This comedy about screen addiction and generational divides received stellar reviews in its original production by Dutch theatre collective Wunderbaum.
