Dan Roodt
Dan Roodt is a South African literary translator and academic specializing in Dutch-to-Afrikaans and French-to-Afrikaans literary translation. He holds a Ph.D. in Afrikaans and Dutch literature from the University of the Witwatersrand and a D.E.A. in French philosophy from the Université de Paris VIII.
Accredited by the Dutch Foundation for Literature since 2017 as a literary translator from Dutch into Afrikaans, his major translations include Jan van Aken’s 'De ommegang' (Afrikaans: 'Die ommegang', 2025) and Jean-Philippe Toussaint’s 'La salle de bains' (Afrikaans: 'Die badkamer'). He is known for his precision and stylistic sensitivity in conveying Dutch and French literature to Afrikaans readers.
In addition to his translation work, Roodt actively contributes to literary and cultural discourse in South Africa and plays an important role in strengthening literary exchange between South Africa, the Netherlands and Flanders.
