Davide Bertagnolli

Davide Bertagnolli is Associate Professor of Germanic Philology at Alma Mater Studiorum – University of Bologna. He has carried out research and teaching activities in Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, and Canada. His research focuses primarily on Middle Dutch and Middle High German literature.

His book 'Freidank. Die Sprüche über Rom und den Papst', published in Germany by Kümmerle, won the 2015 Piergiuseppe Scardigli Prize awarded by the Italian Association of Germanic Philology. In 2020 he published 'I Nibelunghi. La leggenda', il mito, the first Italian monograph entirely dedicated to the 'Nibelungenlied'.

He specializes in the critical editing of medieval texts and has particular expertise in palaeography and manuscript studies. He has edited and translated into Italian the fables of the 'Esopet' (2017), the Arthurian romance 'Ferguut' (2023), and, most recently, 'Van den vos Reynaerde' (2026).
