Ann De Bode
Ann De Bode (b. 1956) has illustrated more than 200 books and also written a number herself. Her oeuvre includes everything from counting books to adventure stories. She is particularly known for her collages and scenes in Fimo modelling clay, which are always crammed with amusing details. For The Girl and the Soldier, De Bode has opened an entirely different register, with powerful, realistic paintings that enhance the threatening atmosphere of the war story.
