Bob Mendes (1928-2021) boasted an impressive oeuvre, ranging from poems and short stories to novels and plays. Over the years, Mendes developed into a master of crime. His thrillers took their inspiration from facts, which he then placed in a new and surprising context. His faction-thrillers have made him the first Flemish author to win the Gouden Strop, a prize for the best Dutch-language thriller, twice.
