Bob Mendes (b. 1928) boasts an impressive oeuvre, ranging from poems and short stories to novels and plays. Over the years, Mendes has developed into a master of crime. His thrillers take their inspiration from facts, which he then places in a new and surprising context. His faction-thrillers have made him the first Flemish author to win the Gouden Strop, a prize for the best Dutch-language thriller, twice.
