I Never Win Anything

Nelle is a dreamer. She likes school, but Mr Bart less so. In turn, the school teacher isn’t crazy about children. Nelle’s parents don’t have a lot of money, but by chance Nelle is able to buy a ticket for the school raffle. The most incredible thing happens: Nelle wins the first prize, a trip to a sun-drenched island for her and her parents. They feel on top of the world and soon make friends with the hotel owners and their daughter. The family are having the time of their life, and even the unexpected arrival of teacher Bart can’t ruin the holiday.

Evelien De Vlieger’s ‘I Never Win Anything’ is an enjoyable summer story full of little adventures that prove that it doesn’t take much to be happy, as long as you’ve got the right mentality. And Nelle and her parents have that in abundance! De Vlieger has lots of fun with her quirky characters, and the humorous and light-hearted text meets its match in Ruth De Jaeger’s dynamic and vivid illustrations. ‘I Never Win Anything’ is a warm feel-good story for young readers.
