An indispensable companion to Dutch-language children's books

The Book of Children's Books

Veerle Vanden Bosch & Mirjam Noorduijn

‘The Book of Children’s Books’ will introduce you to the wealth of literature written in Dutch for children and young adults, within the context of the international world of books for readers young and old. It’s a kaleidoscopic book for reading, looking at and leafing through, for all readers who know how it feels to be a child, and a source of information and inspiration for publishers, booksellers, librarians, teachers – and for everyone else who is passionate about books.

A parade of talent. What a breath of fresh air.
De Morgen

Starting from 50 essential Dutch-language books, it highlights 50 writers, 25 illustrators and 25 themes, with the help of 1001 titles for readers of all ages, from Flanders, the Netherlands and beyond. It is a magnificent treasury of information and a network full of links and unexpected connections.

‘The Book of Children’s Books’ was commissioned by Bart Moeyaert, artistic director of the Flemish-Dutch guest-of-honour programme at the Frankfurt Book Fair 2016. It was published in Dutch in the Low Countries, where it received wide critical acclaim, and also in English, as a promotional tool for Flanders Literature and the Dutch Foundation for Literature.
