This week, we received the sad news that Shulamith Bamberger unexpectedly passed away in her sleep in Tel Aviv. She was known as a talented translator, translating both from Dutch into Hebrew and vice versa. She lived in Amsterdam for most of her life.

Shulamith translated work by among others David Grossman, Willem Elsschot and Arthur Japin. She was recently working on the promotion of Come Here and Let Me Kiss You (‘Kom hier dat ik u kus’) by Griet Op de Beeck. A while ago, she contacted Flanders Literature about the possibility of receiving a grant for the translation of an excerpt from this novel, intending to submit it to potential publishers.

Shulamith Bamberger described herself as 'a translator in heart and soul'. Our thoughts are with her friends and family.
