Alexa Stoicescu

Alexa Stoicescu (b. 1984) was born in Bucharest and decided in 2004 to study German and Dutch philology at the Universitatea Din Bucureşti. She became particularly interested in Dutch-language literature and culture, and following an exchange year in Antwerp she graduated with a thesis on the work of Peter Verhelst. She then went on to study Dutch literature at the University of Amsterdam. Since 2010, she has been living in Bucharest again, where she works as a Dutch Studies lecturer at the Universitatea Din Bucureşti and as a Dutch–Romanian translator. Her most important translations include:

  • 'The Walker' (De wandelaar) by Adriaan van Dis 
  • 'The Islands' (De eilanden) by Albert Alberts 
  • 'Where were you' (Waar was je nou) by K. Schippers
