Anna Patrucco Becchi

Anna Patrucco Becchi (b. 1965) has studied Philosophy and German and Italian literature in Italy and Germany. In 1985 she began her carreer translating nonfiction from German into Italian. For the last twenty years she has specialized in children's literature and started translating mainly children's books, novels for young adults and graphic novels, also from Dutch and English. She has translated works by authors such as Paul Biegel, Marjolijn Hof, Annet Huizing, Sjoerd Kuyper, Benny Lindelauf, Annet Schaap, Annie M.G. Schmidt, Janneke Schotveld and Maren Stoffels.

She was shortlisted three times for the Italian literary prize Premio Strega Ragazze e Ragazzi, an award for the best children's book in translation, sponsored by the Bologna Children's Book Fair. She made the shortlist with her translation of 'Nine Open Arms' ('Negen open armen') by Benny Lindelauf (2017), with 'Hotel Big L' ('Hotel De Grote L') by Sjoerd Kuyper (2018) and with 'How I Accidentally Wrote a Book' ('Hoe ik per ongeluk een boek schreef') by Annet Huizing (2019). For her translation of Annet Huizing's novel she was finally awarded the prize.
