Catherine Desmet

After a 30-year career in the legal field, Catherine returned to university to dedicate herself to her first love: literary translation. She was awarded the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB) Master’s Thesis Prize for her French translation of 'De Violist van Birkenau' by Mike Van Hoecke.

Since obtaining her Master’s degree from the ULB, Catherine has devoted herself to literary and audiovisual translation, including subtitling and audio description. Her portfolio includes the translation of numerous films, Bart Van Loo’s 'Stoute Schoenen' ABC and podcasts released in 2026, and she is currently working on three historical works about France, the first of which is scheduled for release in early 2027.

While her path has naturally led her to translate historical non-fiction, Catherine remains open to other literary genres. Driven by a desire to build bridges between Flanders and French-speaking Belgium, she holds a particular affection for Belgian authors.
