Fabrice Claes

Fabrice Claes was born and raised in Brussels. He studied translation at the Institut supérieur des traducteurs et interprètes (ISTI), where he attended Françoise Wuilmart’s classes on literary translation. After specialising in localisation and subtitling, he began working as a translator while also pursuing a teaching career. Since 2012, he has been teaching Dutch-French literary translation at ISTI, now part of the Université libre de Bruxelles’s translation school, where he also lectures in Dutch, general and specialised translation, and the culture of Flanders and the Netherlands.

Driven by his desire to build bridges between Flanders and French-speaking Belgium, he regularly contributes to the news platform 'DaarDaar', for which he has produced hundreds of translations. An insatiable reader of literature from Flanders, he has a particular passion for thrillers and crime novels – genres in which many authors excel but which often remain unknown in the French-speaking world.
