Helen Simpson

Helen Simpson holds a BA in Egyptology and Ancient History (University College London) and an MA in Museum Studies (University of Leicester). She has worked in museums and galleries in both the United Kingdom and Belgium, most notably for the Hayward Gallery and the Museum of Fine Arts in Ghent. Helen has been working as an independent Dutch-to-English translator since 2012, specialising in the cultural sector. In 2019, she co-translated 'Leon Spilliaert: From the Depths of the Soul' by Anne Adriaens-Pannier (Ludion) and 'James Ensor, Occasional Modernist' by Herwig Todts (Brepols). Selected publications include ‘Imagining the Universe’ by Barbara Baert ('The Big Bang', Hannibal, 2022), 'Paris Souls' (Hannibal, 2022) and 'Constant Permeke' (Hannibal, 2023). Helen regularly produces translations and texts for cultural institutions in Belgium, including S.M.A.K., the Museum of Fine Arts Ghent, M Leuven, the Flanders Architecture Institute and BOZAR. She has lived in Ostend since 2004.
