Malou Van Wijk

Malou Van Wijk (b. 1953) obtained bachelor’s degrees in translation and interpretation (English, German, French) and in Anglo-Germanic philology. She also has a master's degree in English philology from the Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona, where she has taught since 1988. In 1986 she obtained the nomination of Sworn Interpreter in Dutch and English from the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Although her field of research and teaching focuses on phonetics and phonology and diachronic linguistics, she has always been interested in the translation and promotion of Dutch literature in Spain. She has collaborated with the Nederlandse Taalunie since 1996 in organising conferences and congresses and conducting literary translation workshops from Dutch into Spanish in Spain, Belgium and the Netherlands.

She has translated ‘Max Havelaar’ by Multatuli and several novels by Hugo Claus, among them ‘Wonder’ and ‘Desire’.
