Stana Anželj

Stana Anželj (b. 1984) studied Translation Studies (German and French) at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Ljubljana.

She has been translating fiction and nonfiction since 2007, mostly from German. In 2012, she also began translating Dutch and Flemish authors, and her projects to date include work by Kader Abdolah, Herman Koch, Rodaan Al Galidi, Hendrik Groen, Annie M. G. Schmidt, Els Beerten and Jan De Kinder. In 2012, she became a member of the Slovenian Association of Literary Translators.

For her translation projects, she has been awarded various residency grants (Translators’ House Amsterdam, Translators’ House Antwerp, International Youth Library in Munich, European Translators’ College Straelen). Her translation of the German novel ‘The City of Dreaming Books’ by Walter Moers received the Young Translators’ Award 2011 from the Slovenian Association of Literary Translators and her translation of the German novel ‘The Alchemaster’s Apprentice’ by the same author made the IBBY Honour List 2014.
