Veronika ter Harmsel

Veronika ter Harmsel (b. 1972) studied Dutch and German studies in Prague and earned her doctoral degree in theory of literature at the Palacký University in Olomouc. Since 1995 she has occupied herself with translating Dutch literary fiction.

She focuses particularly on the classic modern writers of the 20th century, such as Harry Mulisch, Cees Nooteboom and Jan Wolkers. She was the first to translate works of the now highly acknowledged Arnon Grunberg for Czech readers. In 2007, together with two other translators, she compiled, translated and provided commentaries for an extensive anthology of modern Dutch poetry, and in 2011 she did the same for an anthology of contemporary Dutch prose.
