Guido van Heulendonk
Guido van Heulendonk (b. 1951) is the pseudonym of Guido Beelaert. He is the author of novels, stories and essays. A recurring theme in his work is fate and the — often negative — consequences accidental circumstances can have for the lives, social position and relationships of the characters in his stories. His first novel, ‘Fear of Heights’, appeared in 1985 and was made into a film by Belgian state television. That success was followed by the novel ‘Horses are Pigs too’ in 1995, which won him the Gouden Uil. More recent books are ‘Amber’ (‘Barnsteen’, 2010) and ‘Nobody from Belgium’ (‘Niemand uit België’, 2016).
