Hanni Ehlers
Hanni Ehlers (b. 1954) studied interpreting and translation, English, Dutch and Spanish. Throughout her career she has translated children’s and youth literature from Dutch into German. Significant authors from her oeuvre include Guus Kuijer, Burny Bos, Els Pelgrom and Anke de Vries. After being exposed to the work of Joke van Leeuwen she turned to translating contemporary fiction, including work by Renate Dorrestein, Jessica Durlacher, Anna Enquist, Nelleke Noordervliet, Connie Palmen, Kees van Beijnum and Leon de Winter.
In 2006 she received the Else Otten Prize for ‘Sincerely Yours’ by Connie Palmen, and in 2013 the James Krüs Preis für internationale Kinder- und Jugendliteratur as the translator of Joke van Leeuwen, who was honoured for her entire oeuvre.
