Kerti Tergem

Kerti Tergem (b. 1968) translates from Dutch and English into Estonian. She has been editor-in-chief at a number of publishing houses and translation agencies, and worked temporarily as a teacher of Estonian at the University of Groningen. Currently she works at the Estonian Literature Fund (ELIC).

Some of her translations include:


  • ‘Beyond Sleep’ by W.F. Hermans (nominated for the year’s best translation in Estonia)
  • ‘Shadow Child’ by P.F. Thomèse
  • ‘Rituals’ by Cees Nooteboom
  • ‘In Lucia’s Eyes’ by Arthur Japin
  • ‘The Dinner’ by Herman Koch
