Arie Pos

Arie Pos (b. 1958) studied Dutch, Portuguese, general literary theory and translation theory. He taught Dutch literature and culture at the universities of Coimbra, Lisbon and Porto. At present he works as a literary translator (Portuguese-Dutch and Dutch-Portuguese) for the publishers Afrontamento, ASA, Dom Quixote, 7 Nós, Porto Editora, Relógio d’Água and Teorema.

His fiction translations include works by the authors Abdelkader Benali, Jeroen Brouwers, Hella S. Haasse, Harry Mulisch, Cees Nooteboom, Paul Van Ostaijen, Anne Provoost, Jan Slauerhoff, Annelies Verbeke and Dimitri Verhulst. Additionally, he has translated poetry by Hugo Claus, Arjen Duinker, Gerrit Komrij and Jan Slauerhoff, as well as drama or libretti by Gerrit Komrij, Dimitri Verhulst and others. For his Portugese translation of 'War and Turpentine' by Stefan Hertmans, Pos won the Portugese prize for the best translation of 2020 (Grande Prémio de Tradução Literária Francisco Magalhães).
