Kinky & Cosy
The quirky little sisters Kinky and Cosy manage to wreak havoc with all their naivety and innocence. Fearless and completely uninhibited, these cute little horrors waltz through life, causing mayhem and slapstick comedy with their childish logic. Surrounded by a large number of equally endearing secondary characters, the blond-haired twins in their little red dresses invade the Flemish and French press daily in three-panel strips. Three small panels – that’s all Nix needs for a daily dose of nonsensical and politically incorrect humour.

Nix’s candy-coloured palette and charming illustrations have the look of a children’s book, but the subject matter is definitely for older readers. The strength of these strips lies just as much in their visual impact as in the crazy situations themselves. The absurd humour is translated into claustrophobic, sweating characters who calmly submit to the insanity that befalls them, driven by exaggeration in graphic and narrative form: aeroplanes exist to fall from the sky, doctors are expected not to understand their job, firemen are there to be extinguished, water cannons are for watering plants and sadomasochists are all about licking ice creams.
